The Dallas Cowboys announced that they have agreed to terms with ESPN Monday Night Football analyst Jason Witten to bring the former Cowboys tight end out of the broadcast booth and back on the field for the 2019 season.

“The fire inside of me to compete and play this game is just burning too strong,” Witten said in a statement. “This team has a great group of rising young stars, and I want to help them make a run at a championship. This was completely my decision, and I am very comfortable with it. I’m looking forward to getting back in the dirt.”

Witten was selected by the Cowboys in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft out of the University of Tennessee when Bill Parcells was the head coach in Dallas.

Witten played for the Cowboys for 15 seasons prior to retiring to join the ESPN MNF broadcast for last season.

According to NFL Media’s Ian Rappaport, the Cowboys are paying Witten roughly $5 million for the upcoming season.
