The Dallas Cowboys have decided to part ways with tight end Rico Gathers according to dallascowboys.com.
This move was not a complete surprise with the return of Jason Witten to the roster following a year in the Monday Night Football booth on ESPN.
Gathers started four games last season but according to espn.com, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett “the tight end not showing “the growth we wanted … Maybe if he goes somewhere else he’ll learn from this experience and take advantage of it. Felt like it was best for our team.”
Gathers still faces a one-game suspension to start the season for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy after he was arrested on a marijuana possession charge last year.
