The Carolina Panthers places quarterback Cam Newton on the season-ending reserve list, a move that will likely end the former No.1 overall pick’s time in Charlotte.

Newton injured his right foot in the third pre-season game and aggravated the injury in Week 2 against Tampa Bay.

The 2015 NFL MVP has one year remaining on his contract that is scheduled to pay him $21 million on next season’s salary cap. But if the Panthers move Newton, it will save $19.1 million.
