A California Christmas is the latest Netflix romantic comedy and for those who want to see it after watching the trailer will be heartwarmingly happy after watching the movie that currently sits atop the Netflix Top 10 global rankings.

A wealthy San Francisco business owner’s son pretending to be a farmhand in order to trick a woman into selling her family ranch doesn’t sound like your traditional holiday film on the surface, but it certainly has the feel of a Hallmark or Lifetime movie.
The film stars real-life husband and wife Lauren Swickard as Callie and Josh Swickard as Joseph who both deliver good performances and obviously have great chemistry.

Callie has had her share of tragedy with her father and fiance dying in a car crash and her mother on the verge of passing away after declining to continue chemotherapy. Her family’s ranch is nearing foreclosure and it appears that the only way out is selling to the company run by Joseph’s family. When he arrives to close the deal before his mother’s Christmas deadline, he is mistaken for the new ranch hand and makes the call to play it out as Callie’s employee in an effort to get close to her and sway her mind.
Meanwhile, Joseph’s driver Leo must babysit Manny, the actual ranch hand, who is actually in on the act and has a fondness for video games and a knack for wine.
Is the movie predictable and cliched? Yes.
Is the movie about Christmas? Not really.
Is the movie fun and will it win you over? Definitely.
