LSU defeated Clemson 42-25 in the College Football Playoff title game at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow threw five touchdown passes and ran for another score to lead the No.1 LSU Tigers to the victory over the No. 3 Clemson Tigers.
“I don’t know about the whole hero thing,” Burrow said on espn.com, “but I know this national championship will be remembered for a long time in Louisiana.”
The win was the first national title since 2007 and fourth overall for LSU.
Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence was 25-0 coming into the game.
