Callie’s Corner: #WorkoutWednesday Q&A with Allen American Ice Angel, Brittney

Happy #WorkoutWednesday! This week’s post features a Q&A session with Allen American Ice Angels rookie, Brittney:

Q: What is one thing you must have for every workout?
A: Music! It is key for me when I workout. I have to have my headphones in and blaring really loudly to amp myself up!

Q: What are the top five songs on your workout playlist?
A: My top five workout songs are:
-Bend Ova by Lil Jon
-Partition by Beyoncé
-Don’t Let Me Down by The Chainsmokers
-Work Hard, Play Hard by Wiz Khalifa
-This is What You Came for by Calvin Harris

Q: How do you maintain your physique during the dance season?
A:
I maintain my physique by incorporating a mix of cardio and strength training into my workouts. I teach at Orangetheory Fitness, so that is where I spend most of my time! It’s the only way I enjoy doing cardio. I also take barre classes.

Q: What is one piece of fitness advice every dancer should know?
A: Active recovery days and myofascial release are just as important as workouts- especially for dancers. Dancing is very repetitive and high impact, so the body definitely takes a toll.

Q: How do you take care of injuries during workouts and recovery?
A: Like many dancers, I suffer from old injuries (I have SI joint dysfunction in my right hip, Sciatica and a torn labrum, which means my hips are very weak, unstable and extremely tight). To ensure that I do not further injure myself, I have to perform a lot of dynamic warm ups, and my foam roller is my best friend. I always carry a foam roller, stretching bands, a la crosse ball, and a softball in my dance bag.
