ESPN has added more Disney sports films to its programming schedule, beginning with “Cool Runnings” on Friday, May 29th at 8pm ET and continuing with Air Bud on Friday June 5 at 8pm ET. “Rookie of the Year,” “Angels in the Outfield,” and “The Mighty Ducks” will also air on ESPN, with their air dates to be announced at a later date.

“Cool Runnings”

Friday, May 29 at 8pm ET

Based on a true story, four Jamaican athletes go to extremes to compete as bobsled racers at the Winter Olympics. With virtually no clue about winter sports, it’s an uphill course for this troupe from the tropics as they go for the gold in Canada. After enlisting some professional help, it’s now up to a reluctant ex-champion American slider to bring a team of complete novices up to Olympic speed.

“Air Bud”

Friday, June 5 at 8pm ET

Diffident in the wake of his father’s death, high schooler Josh (Kevin Zegers) struggles to adapt to his new home in Washington state. That all changes, however, when he signs up to be the school basketball team’s manager and discovers that his pet dog Bud, a stray golden retriever he took in, can play the sport amazingly well. After Bud joins the team, Josh’s life brightens considerably, until the dog’s former owner Norm Snively (Michael Jeter) returns in hopes of reclaiming the pooch.

“Rookie of The Year”

When the cast comes off his once broken arm, a 12-year-old boy (Thomas Ian Nicholas) can throw a 100-mile-an-hour fastball, and the Chicago Cubs want him as their new pitcher!

“Angels In The Outfield”

Foster kid Roger (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) loves the Anaheim Angels, even though they’re the worst team in the major leagues. His estranged dad promises to reunite the family if the Angels make it to the World Series, so Roger decides to ask for some divine help and prays that his favorite team will turn things around. Soon, a real angel named Al (Christopher Lloyd) shows up in response to Roger’s prayers, and Anaheim’s hopeless coach (Danny Glover) is shocked to see his team on a winning streak.

“The Mighty Ducks”

Emilio Estevez portrays a hotshot trial attorney who gets a unique community service assignment: coaching a hapless group of pee wee hockey players. Can he turn the worst team in the league into champs and face his personal demons along the way?

A full collection of sports-themed movies are available on Disney+, which is available to sports fans as part of a bundle offer that gives subscribers ESPN+ and Hulu (ad-supported) as well – all three for just $12.99/month.

ONCHAN, Isle of ManEdward Norton, Bryan Cranston, Hank Azaria, Neymar Jr, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Ricardinho, Liam Payne, Gabriel Macht, Amy Schumer and many more celebrities played head-to-head over the weekend in the ‘Stars CALL for Action – Powered by PokerStars’ online poker tournament to raise an enormous $1 million for charity.

More than 90 celebrities signed up to the tournament to raise relief funds during the global pandemic, with the final table a true representation of the event’s international nature.

Twenty-four players succeeded in taking down a portion of the total donation for their charity of choice.

Main Event final table winners and charity amounts:

  • 1st: David Costabile$100,000
  • 2nd: Douglas Costa$75,000
  • 3rd: Jennifer Shahade (PokerStars Ambassador) – $40,000
  • 4th: Casey Affleck$30,000
  • 5th: Chris Moneymaker (PokerStars Ambassador) – $20,000
  • 6th: Mike Tindall$15,000

With 50 percent of the total donation going directly to Care International on behalf of those playing, the remaining $500,000 now goes to the winners’ charities of choice.

The Stars CALL for Action – Powered by PokerStars online poker tournament raised an enormous $1 million for charity

Billions and Suits star David Costabile earned the lion’s share after a heated battle with Brazilian footballer Douglas Costa and a $100,000 first-place donation will now go to World Central Kitchen on his behalf.

It was almost a double success for the cast of Suits when Gabriel Macht went head-to-head with retired English footballer and ex-England international Wayne Bridge for a $50,000 donation in the second chance, winner-takes-all celebrity side event.

In the end Bridge came out on top and will send the $50,000 winner donation to The Little Roo Neonatal Fund.

Other celebrities who were successful in earning donations for their chosen charities include Edward Norton, Bryan Cranston, Michael Ian Black, Don Cheadle, Tony Yazbeck, Macauley Culkin, Nelson Figueroa, Tohi and Thomas Lennon. Amy Schumer’s sister, Kim Carmele, was one of six players to make it into the final from the ‘Player Invitational’, earning $10,000 for her chosen charity.

Hank Azaria said, “What an amazing day it was. I was genuinely moved to connect with so many people that I like and admire for such a wonderful cause and I remain blown away by how much PokerStars stepped up. They put up $10K towards COVID relief for every celebrity that participated and then, even though we didn’t quite reach 100 celebrities, they went ahead and gave a full million dollars anyway which was really incredible. And I got to play some poker!”

Laurie Lee, CEO of CARE International UK, the official emergency relief partner of PokerStars since 2014, said, “This partnership over the past six years means the world to us. With PokerStars’ support we can respond quickly when emergencies strike, saving lives and delivering much-needed aid to vulnerable communities around the world.”

Grants to charities will be administered by the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), a Charity Navigator Four-Star Charity that meets all 20 BBB Charity Standards. Donations can still be made via YouTube and at eifoundation.org/starscallforaction.

FLAVORTOWN, USA — Nacho-loving rivals Guy Fieri and Bill Murray are teaming up for a “Nacho Average Showdown” virtual nacho-making competition to raise awareness and donations for the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund (RERF).

The live event will provide some laughs and raise funds for America’s restaurant workers facing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 crisis. Currently, eight million restaurant workers are unemployed.*

RERF was created by industry icon, Guy Fieri, chef and host of the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF). The Fund provides restaurant workers with $500 grants, and 100 percent of all donations go directly to RERF.

The “Nacho Average Showdown” presented by Tostitos is sure to include off-the-wall humor and friendly banter between Fieri and Murray. Their sons, Hunter Fieri, and Chef & Restaurateur Homer Murray will also do battle to show their dads the secret to making perfect nachos.

Each competitor will create his signature nachos for “Showdown” judges Terry Crews and Shaquille O’Neal.

Food Network host Carla Hall will emcee the event.

Viewers will be encouraged to contribute to RERF via the donate button on Food Network’s Facebook page.

RERF supporters such as Ecolab, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Tyson Foods, Modelo Negra and Food Network are also sponsoring the “Nacho Average Showdown,” and Uber Eats will be the official delivery partner. To date, more than 50 companies and organizations have helped raise over $22 million for RERF.

“My entire career has been in the restaurant business,” said Fieri. “From bussing tables to flambe captain to dishwasher to chef… I have done it all. I’ve also spent the better part of the last 15 years traveling this great country meeting other folks who’ve dedicated their lives to this business, and let me tell you something, they are the hardest working, most real deal workers you’ve ever met… the heartbeats of their communities. But they need our help and with the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund, we can serve up some support when these restaurant employees need it most… right now.”

“The ‘Nacho Average Showdown’ is all about generating awareness and financial relief for the restaurant workers across the nation who are hurting and out of work,” said Marissa Solis, SVP of marketing, Frito-Lay North America. “Tostitos and PepsiCo are proud to put our support behind this cause and are so grateful for partners like Guy and Bill for helping make this event a success.”

“During these challenging times, the NRAEF’s mission to support the industry’s workforce is more important than ever,” said Rob Gifford, NRAEF president. “With Guy as our champion, stars like Bill, Carla, Shaq and Terry and the support of so many generous companies, we can help get our family of restaurant workers back on their feet, and back to building their futures in this industry of limitless opportunities.”

SEC Network launched #HomeSchoolSpirit this week, a new initiative as part of its “We Love It Here” brand campaign. SEC fans are encouraged to post photos and videos on social media with the hashtag #HomeSchoolSpirit to display how they’ve kept their SEC fandom going while staying at home.

SEC Network also continues its robust lineup of social and digital programming for SEC fans looking for current conversation surrounding the world of sports, including No Offseason with Laura Rutledge, SEC For Now and SEC Update. Over the past two weeks, new segments stepped into the fold, such as Marty & McGee’s Show & Tell, Remember When… and What Day Is It? with Alyssa Lang. Daily content is premiering on SEC Network’s Twitter and Facebook accounts, as well as SECNetwork.com.

Additional SEC Network programming updates will be forthcoming. Please continue to check @ESPNPR and ESPN Press Room for more information.

NEW YORK Chiliz, a leading fintech company in the sports space specialising in blockchain-based fan engagement together with UFC, the world’s premier mixed martial arts (MMA) organisation, have announced an exclusive global partnership.

Chiliz offers blockchain-based fan engagement solutions for the sports & entertainment industry through their fan voting & rewards app Socios.com, which aims to create a closer connection between fans, their favourite teams, and their favourite athletes.

Socios.com has partnered with major soccer clubs including FC Barcelona, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain,  Atlético de Madrid, Galatasaray, AS Roma, CA Independiente and esports giants OG to produce club-branded digital assets known as Fan Tokens.

Using Chiliz $CHZ, the cryptocurrency that powers Socios.com, Fan Tokens can be bought and sold via the app’s Marketplace or via the world’s first cryptocurrency exchange for sports & entertainment, Chiliz.net. Fan Tokens give the owner the right to vote in club-designated polls and earn once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

In the short term, the partnership will enable UFC to tap into a captive audience of enthusiastic sports fans from around the world, creating countless opportunities to grow their brand through promotional activity on the Socios.com platform.

The partnership will also enable UFC to capitalise on Chiliz fintech expertise in the sports space, creating further opportunities to grow the UFC brand and increase fan engagement through innovative blockchain, tech, and mobile app solutions.

All Fan Token holders, as well as those who own $CHZ, will be able to access UFC-related offers and rewards, including tickets to UFC events or pre-sale access to tickets through this partnership.

UFC has made MMA into one of the fastest growing sports in the world and counts in excess of 318 million fans across the globe. Their roster consists of the highest-level MMA athletes including Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz, Khabib Nuramagomedov, Holly Holm & Amanda Nunes.

Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO & Founder of Chiliz & Socios.com, said: “By partnering with Chiliz, UFC now has access to a captive audience of fans from some of the biggest sporting organisations on the planet, creating an unprecedented opportunity to attract new followers.

“This exciting partnership is the first major example of how we can use blockchain technology to create incredible engagement opportunities not only for our Fan Token partners, but for other leading enterprises, too.

“It’s also a major step forward in our evolution from pioneers in blockchain-based fan engagement to leading the march as a fintech company in the sports space.”

Nicholas Smith, UFC Vice President Global Partnerships, added: “Chiliz and Socios.com are industry leaders in blockchain based fan engagement and our two companies share a common philosophy to always ‘be first,’ so we are thrilled to begin this new partnership. UFC continually strives to enhance the fan experience and we are looking forward to working with the team on innovative and unique ways to achieve this goal.”
