KAIME 101: Professional Cheerleading Audition Tips

Audition season in the Professional Cheerleading World is among us, so here are some tips for making sure you are ready for Audition day! Good Luck!!

Prep Classes

1. Go to any, if not ALL, of the prep classes the team you are auditioning for offers

   -Great opportunity to meet the Director, Coach, Leaders, Vets, ETC

   -Gives you a chance to learn the team’s dance style

   -Allows you to practice as often as you can

Outfit

1. Find the right outfit that best suits your body type

   -Do NOT wear a top or bottom that is too small, you don’t want to any “Extra Fluff” while you are dancing

   -Do NOT wear anything that exposes too much, you don’t want anything to pop out

   -DO wear a top and shorts that are flattering for your body type

2. Finding the right color for your skin tone

   -Fair skin, Light colors like Baby Blues/Pinks/Purples

   -Olive skin, Vibrant colors like Fuchsia or Turquoise

   -Dark skin

3. Bling your outfit

   -Bling with Rhinestones

   -Helps you stand out

   -Shows your preparation

Tights

1. Wear a color that BEST matches your skin tone

   -Do NOT wear a color that is TOO dark or TOO light for your skin tone

2. Do NOT wear sheer pantyhose

3. Do NOT wear pantyhose with control top lining (Pantyhose shorts look)

4. If the hose are too tight on midsection make a tiny cut in the front to loosen up (No Muffin Top Look)

**MY CHOICE:

Shoes

1. Wear the right shoes for the audition

2. Make sure you HAVE danced in them before

3. Do NOT wear black dance shoes or sneakers with tan hose

   -Cuts off your lines

   -Shoes become distracting

4. DO wear tan jazz shoes or WHITE dance sneakers

MY CHOICE:

I always auditioned in Tan Jazz Shoes

Hair

1. Wear your best hair

-If your hair doesn’t curl and never does, DO NOT wear it curly

2. If you do not know how to do your hair, learn before the audition or get it done by someone

3. Use hairspray and tease it

   – Don’t over tease it

MY CHOICE:

The Dallas Stars liked my hair straight, so I wore it straight for auditions

Make Up

1. Wear Make Up

   -NOT too much

   -NOT too little

2. Wear the right colors for your skin tone

    -Do NOT wear bright eye shadow like pinks, purples or blues

    -DO wear neutrals colors like cream, tan, brown

4. Wear Lipstick

    -Not too bright

    -Not too pale

    -Try find out what the team wears

5. Lashes are a plus

   -Not a necessity

Jewelry

1. ONLY wear earrings..THAT’S IT!!

-Studs

-Do NOT wear anything that dangles

2. Do NOT wear a necklace or bracelet

3. TAKE OUT YOUR BELLY BUTTON RING

Professionalism

1. Being a professional cheerleader is more than wearing a uniform and performing

2. Treat it as any job you would apply for

3. Use your manners

-Yes/No Ma’am

-Yes/No Sir

4. Be kind and friendly to everyone around you, you are ALWAYS being watched

Performance

1. Smile

   -The entire time

2. Dance with confidence

   -Show them you deserve a spot on the team

3. Dance big

   -You want to stand out

4. If you don’t know how to do a double pirouette, DO a strong single

5. Point your toe when doing a high kick

6. During freestyle portion, Do NOT get on the floor and do floor work unless you know what you are doing

   -9 out of 10 it’s ALWAYS awkard

7. Hair flip at appropriate times

   -Do NOT over hair flip

   -If you do not know how to hair flip, learn from someone or watch it on you tube

8. Don’t forget to count to the beat, people tend to get nervous and stop counting

Have fun

1. This is number one to me!

    -Obviously you want to make the team, but remember it’s supposed to be a fun experience. You will meet lifelong girlfriends, learn a lot about yourself, and make memories you’ll never forget. Fear comes out when you put too much stress on yourself, and forget to have fun.

Day of Audition

1. Eat a light, balanced, and healthy breakfast

2. Bring HEALTHY snacks

3. Drink water throughout the day

4. Stretch

5. Practice/Dance before the judges see you perform

Kaime was born and raised in Dallas, TX. From an early age, Kaime always displayed a flair to entertain others around her.  Her pursuits ranged from becoming a nationally ranked competitive roller skater to competitive cheerleading.  All of which eventually led her to become captain of the Dallas Stars Ice Girls, the cheer squad for the professional hockey team.

After attaining her degree in in Radio/TV/Film from The University of North Texas, Kaime went to work for Fox Sports Southwest as a network spokesperson and on-air personality.  As a Fox Sports Girl, Kaime acted as a fan correspondant connecting fans to the network as well as conducting live on-air hits, commercials and interviews.  She was also the host of a show on Fox Sports called “Girls On The Go” in which she gave a behind the scenes look at several professional sports teams.  In addition to her on-air roles, she is also the live pregame host for the Dallas Cowboys.

 After concluding her role as a Fox Sports Girl, Kaime was given the opportunity to become the network’s multimedia host and reporter.  Not only does she still act as a fan correspondent but has been given more responsibility and a greater on-air presence to provide in depth coverage for the network.
