JOURDYN is in her third season with the Texas Legends Dancers.

She joined us at a recent Texas Legends home game at Dr Pepper Arena for PDC Meet the Dancers:

PDC: Jourdyn, your now in your third season with the Texas Legends Dancers and the team captain. Talk about your growth from your first year to now.

JOURDYN: My first year trying out, everything was completely unexpected, it was all brand new and I really didn’t know what was going to be happening. Now I’m in a place where, yes, I’m a little more comfortable, but there’s a different kind of pressure because I’m a leader and I want the new girls to feel comfortable, feel welcome and also growing and improving. It’s definitely been a huge transition over the years, but the process has been a lot of fun.

PDC: What are some of the fun things you’ve experienced with the Texas Legends Dancers?

JOURDYN: My favorite night is always Military Night. Every year. That’s the night where we can really give back and appreciate the soldiers and veterans. We always have a fun game where we dress up in our camo outfits, do some different choreography, a little more hip hop which is more my style and I always look forward to it.

PDC: Describe how you’ve been able to grow as a dancer under the direction of Texas Legends Dancers Director Jen Contreras.

JOURDYN: Jen is a great coach. She tells you the truth, which is what I need to continue growing as a dancer. I feel like I have improved so much as a dancer since first making this team. I can honestly say that I would not have been able to get to where I am without her and that’s the reason I have stuck here with this team because of everything she has done for me.

PDC: What’s a normal week like for the Texas Legends Dancers?

JOURDYN: For example, this week, which is pretty normal, we had practice on Sunday and Tuesday at Next Step Dance. Sunday is the day we audition the dances to be able to perform in the upcoming games. Then Tuesday, we’ll set those dances so that we know formations we are doing. Usually we do two dances per game. Then we have games on Friday and Saturday nights.

PDC: So just because you are on the team does not necessarily mean you get to dance at each game?

JOURDYN: We audition for each dance and we have different styles ranging from jazz to hip hop and for each dance, Jen will take roughly six-10 dancers and there is 20 of us on the team. Sometimes you dance both dances, sometimes you are only in one and even if you aren’t in either dance, you’re still expected to here at the game.

PDC: Where are the Texas Legends Dancers during the basketball games?

JOURDYN: We have stations before the games start such as greeters for fans arriving, dancers in the suites with the sponsors and then during the games, we are on the ends of the courts cheering on the fans. The only time we are back in the locker room is during halftime for a quick touch up and then we go right back out. Occasionally, the Junior Texas Legends Dancers will perform at halftime and we will stay out to support them. Then after the games, we will go out on the court with the players and fans and sign autographs and take pictures.

PDC: What are some of your favorite foods?

JOURDYN: My favorite food has always been Mexican food. I can’t turn down queso.

PDC: What about a favorite restaurant?

JOURDYN: Actually my favorite restaurant is Texas de Brazil. On my birthday, that is where you’ll find me!

PDC: Do you have any favorite movies?

JOURDYN: My favorite movies lately have been the Marvel and DC movies. I think they are pretty cool and fun. I really liked Wonder Woman and I really want to see Justice League.

PDC: What about TV shows? Anything that you are binge-watching or can’t miss every week when it’s on?

JOURDYN: TV shows, The Walking Dead and Stranger Things at the top of the list with Stranger Things being my favorite show right now.

PDC: If you could have a dream vacation and go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

JOURDYN: It would be a beach. Any tropical island with a nice beach because I need the sun and relaxation.

PDC: There have been so many girls from the Texas Legends Dancers who have moved on to other teams, if you could pick one of the major teams to make, which one would it be?

JOURDYN: Well, I’m a Dallas girl and I grew up watching Making the Team, so I would have to say the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Kelli and Judy have always been the people that have been on a platform/pedestal for me, so I would have to pick Cowboys.

PDC: There’s been several Texas Legends Dancers who have gone on to make one of the Cowboys teams, right?

JOURDYN: Yes, Robin, Miranda, Courtni and Kelli were all with the Legends before they made DCC and Klarissa and Leti were here before they made Rhythm & Blue.
