The University of North Texas held their dance team auditions this weekend. The candidates learned a jazz and hip-hop combo along with the school’s fight song on Saturday and returned on Sunday to perform the choreography for the judges panel.

In addition to welcoming a new dance team, they also welcomed a new dance team coach as Brittani Richards took over the reins of the North Texas Dancers.

“I am so excited to continue sharing my passion and purpose through dance as the new North Texas Dancers coach,” Richards said on the team’s Facebook page. “The University of North Texas has such a wide diversity of students that truly illustrates the fundamental values of the university and is reflected in its spirit programs.”

Richards comes to Denton after a three-year stint as Florida State University’s head dance coach. She has served as an instructor for the National Dance Alliance (NDA) and is an accredited national judge for both the NDA and Universal Dance Association (UDA). She has also danced professionally, including for the prestigious Dallas Cowboys Rhythm and Blue Dancers.

“The North Texas Dancers are one of the most distinguished collegiate dance teams,” Richards added. “I cannot wait to continue the strong legacy of the program.”
