Callie’s Corner: #WorkoutWednesday Tips on Audition Nutrition

Happy #WorkoutWednesday… and happy audition season! This week, I want to answer the popular question: “What/how should I eat during the months, days and weeks leading up to auditions?” Here are two tips I learned during my pro dance days:

1. Eat Clean (i.e. no processed foods!). This is critical to both your well-being AND the way you look in your audition uniform. A good rule of thumb is to eat foods with as few ingredients as possible (if any at all!). Think lean meats with vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and healthy fats. Along with eating clean, it is imperative you drink a lot of water, monitor your sodium intake, and limit alcohol consumption (I know that last one can be a bummer, but alcohol is terrible for your metabolism).

2. Do NOT crash diet. I have heard of horrific crash diets that girls put themselves through in an attempt to look good in their audition uniforms. Not only is this bad for your body, but it is not sustainable. Crash diets will zap your energy and slow your metabolism. Instead, make sure you get the right amount of protein, fats and carbs for your daily needs. My Fitness Pal, an app you can download on your phone, is a great tool you can use to track your macros, nutrients and calorie intake, as well as your activities so you can ensure you are eating enough of the right foods. 

There are many great resources out there that provide meal plans; and I highly recommend finding a nutrition blogger you aspire to look like and following them on social media for tips and meal ideas.
