Callie’s Corner: #WorkoutWednesday Pre-Workout Drinks to Try

Article By: Callie Hickman

Happy #WorkoutWednesday!  This week, I’m sharing some of my favorite pre-workout drinks with you! Full disclaimer here: I have not tried every single pre-workout on the market (because really, who has time for that?!).

If you are like me, your body does not react well to creatine or too much beta-alanine. Creatine is great for keeping your muscles hydrated, but if you’re a dancer and want to look lean, it can be counter-productive. Beta-alanine gives you that tingly feeling (which some people like), but personally, it makes me feel like I’m going to crawl out of my skin! No bueno!

When it comes to searching for a good pre-workout, eliminating creatine and beta-alanine definitely narrows your search. From the pre-workouts I have tried, here are my top two favorites:

When to use it: In the mornings before fasted cardio
Why I like it: This product is not only a steady energy boost (it uses caffeine instead of beta-alanine), but it also serves as a fat burner and helps curb your appetite. It also doesn’t make you crash!
Recommendation: Do not take this after 2pm or you will have a hard time sleeping!

2.Advocare Spark

When I use it: Pretty much any time of day before a workout or when an extra boost is needed.
Why I like it: Spark contains a lot of vitamins and is a great way to boost your energy levels without feeling like you’re going to crawl out of your skin! It also served as a great drink to chug down before games when I was a Dallas Stars Ice Girl because it would help give me the extra energy I needed to perform through three periods.
Recommendation: If you don’t know an Advocare distributor (sorry ladies, I’m not one!), you can find it on Amazon by clicking here.

If you want to try other pre-workouts, remember to always look at the ingredients before you buy! Also, don’t be afraid to ask for samples when you buy in-store. See you next week!
