WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. –  The Greenbrier Sports Performance Center will be filled with NFL talent once again this summer as the Houston Texans have announced they will hold their Training Camp at the 3-year-old facility on the property of The Greenbrier resort.

“We couldn’t be more excited about having the Houston Texans come to The Greenbrier for Training Camp,” said Jill Justice, D.O., President, The Greenbrier. “Our guests and football fans from all over will have the opportunity to watch these exceptional athletes practice for free and experience everything America’s Resort has to offer. The Texans will find a wonderful facility that will help them prepare for the 2017 season.”

Built in 2014, The Greenbrier Sports Performance Center hosted the New Orleans Saints Training Camp in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and has also hosted practices for the West Virginia University and Marshall University football teams. The Arizona Cardinals made a stop at the facility for a week between road games in 2015, and the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots practiced with the Saints for two days in 2015.

The multi-purpose Sports Performance Center, which includes two grass fields, one artificial surface field and a training facility complete with a weight room, training room, locker rooms and offices, has also hosted soccer, lacrosse and other youth events and will be the home of The Spring League, a new instructional football league developed to give NFL free agents an opportunity to showcase their talents to scouts, in April.

“We are extremely proud of our facility, and everybody who has visited it has been thrilled with the experience,” said Habibi Mamone, Executive Tournament Director of The Greenbrier Classic. “We’re so excited that the Texans have made the choice to hold Training Camp at The Greenbrier, and we look forward to giving them a special welcome this summer.”

“We’re thrilled to have the Texans coming to West Virginia,” added West Virginia Governor Jim Justice. “Any time we can bring new visitors to our state and showcase its beauty and its people to a new audience, that’s a great opportunity. Having the Texans and their fans here is also a tremendous boost for the economy in the area, and we know the community will embrace the Texans as their own.”

The Houston Texans, founded as an expansion franchise in 1999, competed in their first  NFL season in 2002, making the organization the youngest in the NFL. The club has already found plenty of success, however, including four AFC South championships. Head coach Bill O’Brien led the Texans to a 9-7 regular season record in 2016, their third straight 9-7 campaign. The AFC South champions defeated the Oakland Raiders in the first round of the NFL Playoffs before being eliminated by the Patriots in the AFC Divisional Round.

“We are thrilled with the opportunity to hold training camp at The Greenbrier,” said Houston Texans Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager Rick Smith. “It’s a wonderful place and the facilities and climate combine for an ideal environment as our team trains, bonds, and prepares for the 2017 season.”

The dates of the Texans’ visit to The Greenbrier will be announced soon.
