I cannot believe this is the last #WorkoutWednesday of 2016! Time flies when you’re having fun! 2017 is right around the corner, I know you ladies are going to set some New Year’s resolutions to better yourselves- and you should!

According to research conducted by the University of Scranton, 25 percent of people who make New Year’s resolutions abandon their goals within the first seven days of January, and about half of them abandon them within six months. In order to help keep you from becoming one of those statistics, the PDC crew decided to share some tips on how to set and keep your resolutions this coming year:

1. Set realistic goals

One of the biggest problems I see in failed New Year’s resolutions is when people set unrealistic goals. When that happens, it’s easy to get discouraged and fall back into old habits.

If, for example, your goal is to exercise more frequently, schedule four to five days a week at the gym instead of seven. If your goal is to eat healthier, try swapping out some of your non-healthy daily eats for healthier ones instead of going to an extreme like cutting out carbs completely.

2. Create a timeline

You know the phrase “fail to plan, plan to fail” is absolutely true in every facet of life. Writing down your goals and setting timelines for achieving said goals will better equip you to hit the bigger milestones you are wanting to reach. If you are a visual person like me, this would be a perfect time to invest in a big white board for your timeline. Be sure to hang it where you can see it every single day, serving as a reminder for your future goals, as well as some of your accomplishments along the way.

3. Don’t beat yourself up

No one is perfect. Remember that minor setbacks when reaching your goals are completely normal. Don’t give up and binge because you ate dessert and broke your diet or skipped the gym for a week because you were sick or too busy. Recover from your mistakes and get back on track! It’s all about the journey.

Be sure to stay tuned for next year’s posts- we have some exciting guest contributions coming your way! Happy New Year!
