Sarah is in her rookie season with the Dallas Mavericks Dancers.

She joined us at a recent Dallas Mavericks home game at American Airlines Center for PDC Meet the Dancers:

PDC: You recently moved to Dallas. Talk about your dance background and what led you to move to Texas.

SARAH: When I was 2 1/2 years old, I started dancing in a studio and continued all the way to high school where I was on varsity cheer and pom. For college I went to Arizona State and I decided rather than auditioning for the school’s dance team, I wanted to do it for a professional team. I auditioned for the Arizona Cardinals Cheerleaders my sophomore year and I made the team. I did the Cardinals for two seasons then took a year off during my senior year before graduating and going out on a limb to try out for the Dallas Mavericks Dancers.

PDC: So you moved to Dallas specifically to be a part of the Dallas Mavericks Dancers?

SARAH: I actually moved here after I officially made the team. I felt like I was in a bubble in Arizona and I wasn’t growing as a person, so I really wanted to try something different. I really liked the style of the Mavs Dancers and coming here, to a place where I didn’t know anyone (I literally did not know one person in Texas) and making this team has changed my life in that I now have a new group of people that I can call my friends for life. The people here in Dallas are really nice and the girls on the team are amazing.

PDC: What is your favorite part of Mavs game night?

SARAH: The actual dancing with my teammates. There is such an amazing adrenaline rush when you are out on the court that it’s really hard to describe unless you get to do it and nothing else matches it.

PDC: What is the biggest difference in performing on the field at an NFL game for the Cardinals and an NBA game for the Mavericks?

SARAH: In the NBA, the fans are closer, the dances are faster and more intricate and I definitely prefer this type of dancing. For the Cardinals, there was actually more dancing going on, because we did pre-game and fourth quarter out on the field and during the game, we were split into four groups and danced in the four corners of the sidelines.

PDC: Do you have a day job in addition to being an NBA dancer?

SARAH: Yes, I sell insurance. Car, home, life, health, mortgage loans, car loans. I was actually really lucky in that I got the job two days after I found out that I had made the team and would be moving to Dallas.

PDC: Favorite movie star?

SARAH: Blake Lively because she is beautiful and people say I looked like her when I had blonde hair.

PDC: Favorite movie or movies?

SARAH: I like sci-fi movies. Star Trek, The Hobbit, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Divergent. I’m not really a big Star Wars fan.

PDC: Favorite music?

SARAH: I like Beyonce and Taylor Swift. I also like country music, like Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton.

PDC: What’s on your DVR right now?

SARAH: I’m actually getting caught up on that HBO show Westworld. I just finished the seventh episode and I’m trying to guess the ending but they keep throwing me for a loop. Other than that, I’m usually watching Arrow or The Flash, I am definitely more into action stuff than soap operas or dramas.

PDC: Since this is your first holiday season on your own, did you get to go home for the holidays at all?

SARAH: I did go home to Arizona for Thanksgiving and Christmas and it was great to see everyone, but I really like it here and I don’t plan on moving back.
