FORT WORTH, Texas — Galderma Laboratories, L.P., makers of Cetaphil, a brand recommended by more dermatologists than any other brand of cleansers and moisturizers, is proud to celebrate the fifth consecutive year of its “Meaningphil™” partnership with the Children’s Skin Disease Foundation (CSDF) and Camp Wonder, an initiative of the CSDF. What began five years ago as a product sponsorship has evolved into a long-term commitment to raising awareness of skin diseases, with Galderma and Cetaphil providing not only product, but generous grants, volunteers and sponsored activities as a part of their partnership.

Camp Wonder is a medically-staffed summer program that invites children ages seven to 16 who suffer from severe and life-threatening skin diseases to experience a week away from bullies, mean stares, and that isolating feeling of being different. Instead, children get to experience the joys of being a kid at summer camp just like so many others across the country. The week-long camp is funded by the CSDF, an organization founded in May 2000 by Francesca Tenconi.

“I am beyond grateful for the support that the CSDF has received from Galderma and Cetaphil over the last five years. Our partnership is a special one, where together, we are able to touch the lives of so many children affected by chronic skin diseases,” said Tenconi. “We’re so fortunate to have sponsors like Galderma and Cetaphil to help us create a place where these children can feel comfortable in their own skin and experience the joys of summer camp like other kids their age.”

CSDF hosted 100 children in Livermore, CA for a week of various summer camp activities from June 20th to June 25th, 2016.  This year’s theme was “CSDF Olympics” and Cetaphil invited U.S. Paralympic athlete, Megan Absten, for a surprise visit to Camp Wonder, where she was able to kick off the games and speak to the children about her journey of achieving great things in the face of adversity, while empowering them to do the same. Excited campers were able to enjoy various events throughout the rest of the week including the annual prom night, talent show and movie night. There were also Cetaphil-sponsored activities such as a bean bag toss, and a prize wheel where campers spun to win assorted Cetaphil merchandise, product, and of course, candy.  Galderma sent the highest number of volunteers to date, including Cetaphil representatives who were all on-site to help staff where needed.

“All of us at Galderma Laboratories are proud to continue our commitment to the CSDF and Camp Wonder program. Throughout our five years in partnership, Galderma and the Cetaphil brand have raised over $700,000 to help support the Camp and have worked in partnership with CSDF Founder Francesca Tenconi to create meaningful experiences for children suffering from skin diseases,” said Miles Harrison, President and General Manager of Galderma for North America. “We are continually inspired by the work of Francesca and the courage of the Camp Wonder children and want to do our part to support this organization and help improve the lives of the children and their families.”

About Camp Wonder

Camp Wonder was created by Francesca Tenconi in 2001. At age 11, Francesca was diagnosed with pemphigus foliaceus, a potentially life threatening skin disease. Throughout her treatment she met other kids who suffered from skin problems and wanted to find ways to help them. In

May 2000 on her 16th birthday, Francesca asked friends and family to donate money to help her start a charity in lieu of giving her gifts. Four days later, the Children’s Skin Disease Foundation (CSDF) was formed. Thankfully, Francesca made a full recovery and is now working on dermatology research while continuing to work with CSDF. In addition to raising money for medical research and family assistance, CSDF started Camp Wonder—a summer program where children with serious and fatal skin diseases can just be kids. csdf.org/campwonder.
